Square belts are typically made from flexible and durable materials like rubber, polyurethane, or silicone, which offer good elasticity, wear resistance, and vibration absorption. Their elasticity allows them to maintain tension without the need for complex tensioning systems. Unlike flat or toothed belts, square belts rely on friction between the belt and pulley to transmit motion, making them suitable for simple drive systems where precise timing is not critical.
